A simple solution that works...
« on: January 05, 2005, 02:42:57 AM »
I put two house bricks under the legs at the foot of my bed to tip it up.  Try one brick high at first as it feels odd but you will soon get used to it and be able to get to about 6 inches.  It really helps with the swelling after an operation, I used it for about 3 months, the bad news is that it feels odd all over again when you take them out!

The other things I found good were:
A light 3 legged folding stool and a childs spill proof mug.  When I was on crutches a carried these everywhere on a shoulder strap.  The mug is vital to be able to carry a cup of tea more than one crutch step and have more than 1/2 inch left and the stool is for resting the stiff leg on.  I was always bemused at the outpatients waiting room to be the only one waiting in comfort with their leg up and sitting back in their seat.

Backpacks are great too.  I used to carry all my stuff around in it, including a thermos which was good for hot and cold stuff.
