The best book I read last year was
The Flamboya Tree, by Clara Olink Kelly
a very thought provoking book.
Already mentioned but other books I've recently enjoyed are Curious incident..., Da Vinci Code and The Lovely Bones.

I heard Lovely Bones was a very good book...I just never got the chance to read it.
Currently I'm reading Fire On The Beach: Recovering The Lost Story of Richard Etheridge and the Pea Island Lifesavers.
Awesome book. It's about the only African American Lifesaving station on the Outer Banks. Truely a wonderful book.

I'm currently working on my 7th or 8th reading of The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy by Douglas Adams. The first of the actually 5 book "trilogy" is going to be released as a full length movie in late April, I absolutely cannot wait!
I'd reccommend any of Douglas Adams's books, and also anything by Arthur C. Clarke or Michael Crichton (sp?)
There's so many out there, how can you pick your favorite? LOL.. and I'm proud to say I just got my new library card yesterday! YAY!

I am a total book worm but my favorite series has to be Harry Potter... I can't wait until the next book comes out this summer
James Herriot books are good too, as are the Tales of a Country Vet series.

Have to agree with CanadianBacon... HARRY POTTER rocks my world, I also Love the James Herriot books and...there are three books by a vet from Western Canada, David Perrin. THEY are amazing... 1 Don't turn your back in the barn 2 STallside manner 3 Where does it hurt (maybe Laura that's what you mean by the adventures of a country vet?) But I am also very taken my reality books about everest and other mountaineering adventures. Deep Waters is also very good, but VERY disturbing.

I like the Vampire Chronicles by Ann Rice
I am a vampire book freak! (Don't know why)
I did really enjoy the Harry Potter books though.
