OS appointment tomorrow...nervous!
« on: January 28, 2005, 03:07:09 AM »
Hi everyone, hope your week has gone well.  I'm going back to my OS tomorrow afternoon and he's going to go over my MRI results.  I wasn't given a report, so I've been waiting around for 2 weeks to find out what's going on in there.

Sorry for the rant, but I'm really nervous about it.  It's come right in the middle of hockey season and I would really hate to sit out a few games  :-\

hugs,
Lesley

thanks everyone for your replies. well, i guess i can say im a little disappointed.  This OS hasnt failed me before, he was the 3rd doctor i went to.  He told me its a sprain, conveniently failed to mention which one, and told me that i can still keep playing, as long as im wearing a brace (which i have been doing, with a non joy)and to see me in 6 months.  am i wrong to be thinking this? because this has been going on for awhile, and he's basically patting me on the head and saying everything's ok, but it really doesnt feel that way. im not sure what to do.

any thoughts?

Sorry you didn't get what you wanted.  ???  They tend to do that a lot.  :(

Are you in physical therapy or anything? Since you've had several sprains you would need  PT to strengthen specific muscles and develop skills to help eliminate the sprains.

Call ahead and ask for your records you will have to go and sign some papers and have you rpicture ID.  See if he was any more specific there.  You can get a copy if the MRI report also.

Sending you a bunch of Big Hugs! ;D 8) 8)

i'm in no physical therapy program whatsoever, which is part of the disappointment.  it really concerns me becasue judging by where the pain is im pretty sure its my mcl (again :-\) and i really want it to stop.

thanks for the hugs :D

Hi Lesley, sorry that you are disappointed after your OS visit.  Why not go to your GP and ask for a few sessions of PT? You can get targeted exercises to do for your particular condition.  Maybe this would help strengthen that knee problem.

Let us know how you are doing?  ;)

Lesley,

Hang in there and go to your GP.  Just do what you think is right for you.  As much as I like my OS, sometimes I just want to knock him with one of my crutches.  Take care of yourself and let me know if I can help you.  Hugs and Luv!

Hi Lesley

Just been reading this post.  Why don't you call your OS/OS' secretary and tell them what you feel.  Tell them that you think it is the MCL again.  After all, you know your body/knee much better than they do.

I recall last year that I had a sensation that I had torn my medial meniscus in my left knee, yet again.  I called my OS' secretary and told her what I was feeling and thinking.  In the end, she mentioned this to my OS and he called me up.  I explained everything to him over the phone and he got me in on the first NHS appointment he could possibly do, which was earlier than his private appointments!!  After further discussions and an examination, we agreed that my diagnosis was correct.  He then sent me for an MRI just to be doubly sure.  He is a very conservative OS and he will not do any surgery unless he has to.

The long and short of it was that I had torn my medial meniscus in my left knee and he was able to do the surgery as soon as he possibly could.  Didn't help for the fact that my knee gave way after I saw him and I ended up in ER and then was admitted to the Orthopaedic Ward at my local NHS hospital (yuckee!!).  Ended up having to be in the hospital for 41 days!!  My worst fears came true, I ended up having to have a bed bath and had to use a bed pan too - really embarassing!!  :o :-[

Be as forceful as you can, without being rude.  Get the results that you want to end up with.  After all, it is your body you are dealing with.  Make yourself be heard.  Catch my drift?

Good luck ... Love ... Lizzie xx
