Post Op Femoral Osteotomy
« on: October 15, 2004, 12:35:56 AM »
Well all, looks like the worst part is over, at least I hope.  I was operated on Monday morning and sent home tuesday afternoon.  Bleeding and pain were not too bad.  Currently my whole leg is wrapped from my hip down to my toes.  On top of all the ace bandages is an imobilizer which I can take on and off as I please, just have to keep it on to sleep.  Dr. said that was it as far as a brace as I will be nwb for about 8 weeks anyway.  Currently the oxycodone is handing the pain sufficiently.  The itching from the oxy is kind of annoying.  So far so good I guess but it's going to be a long 8 weeks I can tell.   :)

Not bad for one week post op :)  It's going to be a long 8 weeks of not being able to use it though!!  I am enjoying having the hubby have to wait on me for a change though  ;D

All the very best with your recovery - my advice for the next 8 weeks?  Buy yourself a whole heap of jigsaw puzzles and a puzzle board so you can do them on your lap!

Take care

Thanks Faith,

Fortunately I have several laptops around the house so one is usually handy.  I can't believe how easily I'm getting worn out though.  Got up this morning and got changed for the day and I was ready to go back to bed!!

lol!

I remember after I had my osteotomy (I think I was about 1 week post op) I got up and dressed and expended SO much energy making my bed that I crawled back in it and went back to sleep!  My thoughts are with you through this.

Wow - your incision picture is unbelievably awesome compare to mine.  I will be 14 weeks post op tomorrow and the best advice I could give anyone going thru this is have patience.  As another person told me that has helped me the best - DO NOT push thru pain and do NOT let PT push you thru pain.  Since I have backed off, I have turned a corner and can actually say I am nearly painfree finally.  Check out my gruesome incision pictures on my web www.hopeformarrow.org and go under knee progress, then pictures.  best of luck.  If you have trouble with pain, I found Talwin worked the best.  Cathy

Ouch, yours does look very painful.  So far so good with mine, not a great deal of pain but then I've made sure when it thinks about hurting I take my Oxy.  I think today probably I'll switch to the Vicoden and see how that goes.  I get then staples out Wednesday....YEAH!!  Not sure yet when or what I'll be starting for PT.  Not sure he will have me doing a whole lot til at least 8 weeks and I can start putting some weight on it.  I'm sure it's going to be a long 8 weeks. ::)

Wow, thats such a neat, clean tidy scar.  You'll hardly notice it once its healed!.  I think one of my surgeons used a pair of blunt crinkle cut scissors :-/

Boy, that's a real nice job on the scar there!  Your photo looks amazing.  My OS had to repair my old scar - he used it for this surgery.  It had split open when I had my original surgery and so this time he tucked it all in and hopefully it'll look nice.  But honestly, that's about the cleanest, neatest close up I've ever seen on a surgery as major as what you've just had!

I'm recovering now too from surgery on 10/7 - maybe we can commiserate together!  Take care!

I was really surprised how nice and neat it looked.  I went and had the staples out yesterday and even his nurse and PA commented on how excellent it looked.

Latest update:  Week 6 is finally here and new x-rays wednesday showed new bone growth is looking good.  I am now allowed to put a whole 40 lbs of weight on it.  :)  It's definitely a step in the right direction ;D
