The medical term for it is osteoarticular transfer surgery.

It is for those who have had cartilage damage.

Like I stepped in a hole in my back yard and i broke of serveral sections of cartilage on the femur bone. I was diagnosed with osteochondritis dissecans.

Oats is where the go in the knee and from places that aren't weight bearing they take good cartilage and put it where there was bad or no cartilage in the weight bearing sections.

Hope that helps
