*sigh* another arthroscopy
« on: October 17, 2004, 03:08:59 PM »
I badly dislocated my knee cap 7 years ago, I had always suffered with what I use to describe as 'a dodgy knee. I used to feel it dislocate then pop back in place and the one time I went a GP about it she just said it was all part of being female and my conformation of the angle from my hips to my knees  LOL. Thing is I believed her and just struggled on, strapping it up tightly for any sports etc. It was only when I dislocated it compeletly that all the real problems started to unfold.
The rehab from the dislocation itself was a long and slow process. It was suggested that I had an arthroscopy to see what was going on ....... which led to the Roux Goldthwaite procedure. That was about 6 years ago now and the patella has now stabalised.
Still though I suffered with pain and the physio suggested that I lower my goals as the damage that had been done by the dislocation was to affect the end product.
I had another arthroscopy which they removed a peice of cartalige and said that I had significant arthritis to the knee and there really was nothing they could do.
Last year I started to suffer with alot of pain once more and I went in last Thursday for another arthroscopy. My surgeon felt that the staple they had used to stabalise the ligament may have worked loose and  he wanted to remove it. He was also concerned about irregularities to the joint surface, he mentioned something about maybe shaving the bone .......... but what worried me most was he mentioned something about 'ulceration'. All I know right now is that the staple has been removed and my leg is extremely swollen and very, very painful. I will not know the findings of the arthroscopy for another 6 weeks when I have an out patient appointment with the specialist.
What is worrying me most is the mentioning of 'ulceration' can anyone enlighten me to what that might be. I know that he never shaved any bone away as I would have been told that straight away.
I don't think I could go through with another open knee op, the pain and rehab is just unbearable to think about.
Can anyone give me any advice?
Newbie,
Ali.

I remember reading something about blisters in a link from another member. Lemme see if I can find the link....http://www.steadman-hawkins.com/knee_chondral/overview.asp
This talks about chondral damage, but mentions blisters. I don't know if it's relevant to you or not, but thought I'd toss it out here.
multiple arthroscopies 2/00,3/01,6/01,1/03, 12/07,10/10. chondromalacia, severe medial joint space narrowing following 3 partial menisectomies, chronic pain problems, kneecap problems, OCD lesion, failed mfx.
