How soon you jog after surgery?
« on: October 10, 2004, 10:01:59 AM »
I got my arthroscopy Oct.1 for meniscus tear.  There's still a little swelling and heat, especially if there has been no ice on my knee for a couple hrs.  But MAN I DYING to go for a little 10 minute jog in my barkmulch trail!  :-[ Is that bad?  :-X  Anyone else jog so soon after surgery?

Hey !!

First of all you have to rebuild your muscles around the joint to get stability and balance back.
Cycling is very good also specially on a stationery bike.
My doc doesn't recommend jogging before 4-6 weeks after surgery at least.
Take a walk instead to begin with.

My doctor told me it would be six months after lateral release before I could run again.  At four months, he knew I was just dying to run and my rehab had been going well so he said I could start slowly.  It was a mess!  I had to stop and it was, you guessed it, two months before I was really able to run, and even now I have to take it easy.

In other words, don't rush it.  I KNOW (believe me) how much you want to run.  But if you run too soon, you might jeopardize your ability to run in the future.  Do what your doctor tells you.
