Total knee replacement - type of prosthesis
« on: October 09, 2004, 03:36:43 PM »
Are all replacement knee prostheses the same size?  How will my surgeon know that the parts will fit my bones?  I don't have to see him again until I go into hospital, and he certainly hasn't measured me!

Hi,

Prostheses are not all the same size.  There are measuring devices that they use in the OR to figure out which one fits your knee best.  Before they cement everything in, they put in trial pieces to make sure everything fits right!

Thanks Danielle.  I'm sure there'll be other questions which arise in the next four weeks while I'm waiting for my surgery.  It's great to be able to discuss these seemingly minor issues with others.
