Title: Chondroplasty recovery, how long?
Post by: heather k from wales on July 26, 2004, 12:05:57 AM
I had a chondroplasty 3 weeks ago.  Although I had a bit of a complication, I have absolutley no idea how long I should expect for recovery.  I know everyone recovers differently and it depends on how much was done etc..., I'd just like a rough idea.
Anyone who had or knows anyone who had a chondroplasty, could you please jot down roughly how long until you were able to walk comfortably without crutches, drive, get full ROM back, and fully recover, etc........

I'd be really greatful for some feedback,

Many Thanks,

Heather ;)

Hi Heather

I had a chondroplasty, adhesiolysis, and fat pad removal last Nov. I was originally told it would take about 6 weeks to recover but the doctor later amended that to 4 mos. He said he did alot of work behind the patella and removed a considerable amount of tissue. I was weight bearing as tol but needed crutches about 2 -3 weeks, especially outside the house. It was very painful. I did home PT............SLR , heel pumps, quad sets and patella mobes for 2 weeks. Dr then had me start formal PT for 8 weeks. It took all of 4 mos to feel better although my patella damage is just too large and I still have problems.

Recovery probably depends on how much work was done on the patella and any other procedures as well.
