Title: Who are the best surgeons in the US for Patellofemoral replacement?
Post by: ArmstrongK on July 11, 2020, 03:50:12 PM
Can anyone recommend some surgeons that have experience and a good rep
for Patellofemoral arthroplasty in the US? (Preferably the east coast?)

Dave33 has posted about his PFJR and is in N America, although could be Canada rather than the States. You can search for his posts by user name

Otherwise, hereís the KG Patella surgeons list

Dr Grelsamer is in NY and a contributor to the forum.
His CV cites a special interest in replacements

Thanks, Vickster!  I went to see Dr. Gomoll at HSS and a telehealth visit with Dr. Jess Lonner, I got 2 very different opinions 🤔

Armstrong, great that you got some opinions! Could you, in a nutshell, share how the opinions differed (you don't need to mention which doc said what)?

Yes, in Canada. RGB and I have both had the procedure; I'm about 2 years in, and we both have had positive experiences. If you've got any questions, feel free to ask!

My apologies, very delayed response! So, in 2020 I sent my MRI off to one of the docs and then did a telehealth visit. He was a very nice guy and told me I was a candidate for the Patellofemoral arthroplasty. But, because of the pandemic and because itís such a big procedure, I held off on the surgery. I went to NYC to get another opinion and was told that the OA wasnít bad enough to warrant a PFA and he thought the pain was coming from something else. He suggested a diagnostic scope and clean out and to check the status of my osteochondral allograft.
I actually waited awhile to ponder things and wait for COVID to calm down and then recently went to Philadelphia area to do an actual in person visit with the doc I had only previously talked to via zoom. I was prepared to potentially move forward with the Patellofemoral replacement but something changed his mind and he said he didnít think I would benefit from it and actually would not recommend it for me!
He said he thinks the pain is from the soft tissues. I left confused and wondering what changed his mind??  I will most likely just get a clean out now and see if that helps.
