Title: Extremely painful after tibial plateau surgery
Post by: Marknireland on November 04, 2015, 12:51:21 PM
Hi. Im 27 and fractured my tibial plateau. Mildly displaced and depressed fracture 2mm. Wasnt ovious on xray but showed up on ct and mri. It happened on the 17th October. My a&e decided to treat it conservatively. I wasnt sure if this was the best thing so i got a second opinion and only got surgery yesterday. I got to go home that evening. They put in two screws. I wasnt expecting to be in so much pain. The pain is excruciating if i go to move at all. I am in a leg extension brace and i have to go back in a week where they intend to put on a hinged brace. Any advice from any1 else? Is this normal to have so much pain with the slightest movement from two screws? I'm really starting to regret surgery and maybe should have stuck with conservative treatment but too late to regret that now. Thanks

Hi marknireland,
Sorry to hear you are in so much pain following your surgery. When I fractured my tibial plateau, I was operated on in 2 days and did suffer from some pretty bad pain for the first week or so but it did settle after that.

I did find that if I overdid it my leg would swell and get sore (probably from screws and plates rubbing on soft tissue) and that if the plates and screws got bumped they would also hurt like hell.

Wishing you all the best.
