Title: Problem/MRI tomorrow/intrigued
Post by: dm26051999 on October 24, 2013, 12:59:32 PM
Hi all,

I play football, am 25, and have recently suffered for my first knee problem in my life.

Its been going on about 6 weeks now, and shows no signs of let up despite rest etc.

I have an MRI booked tomorrow, and a consultation with a knee specialist, however im interested/intrigued as to what it could be in the meantime.

Basically, its my right leg, and its a gradual onset thing which is there permanently, but worsens to the point of having to stop completely when I run/turn/play! I can kick a ball no problem at all, but the problem is exaggerated with running, and bending my knee (the running motion, heel towards backside)

The best way to describe it is that the actual area of pain and discomfort is specifically at the top of the fibula, and around a 3 inch circle above and towards the knee cap. What may be crucial is that when I bend my knee, and at the point my heel is probably 2/3rds of the way towards my backside, I can actually feel 'something' clicking and coming between the knee cap and whatever the bone is to the right. This happens in two places, and is obviously replicated if I start with my leg fully bent, and straighten it out. The knee feels weak, and the more I run/do this movement, the worse it gets.

I have attached a picture as well, basically the area of weakness discomfort and pain is circled. The two places this clicking is occurring, where I can physically feel 'something' pushing outwards, are numbered 1 & 2

Any thoughts appreciated, I know ive got a scan but I came across this forum and thought id post quickly.

Thanks (edit -pic coming shortly)

obviously that's straight leg, right leg, knee cap just to the side of the numbers 1 & 2 which are where the clicking/lump is present, and where it says fib is the top of the fib as I understand

not the best pic, should have done one straight on really

Could possibly be a stress fracture on the fibula. No idea about the clicking though, does the clicking cause pain or it just clicks with no pain?. You should probably take it easy until you find out more of whats going on.

Cheers

To be honest, the more I feel the 'clicking' its actually a piece of something, or a tendon or some sort of physical thing that's being pushed out enough to be felt rather than simply a click. Right where ive numbered 1 & 2

Yeah I think I know what you mean I have same clicking problem, but whats weird is mine came only after surgery I think. It happens like you said when standing and bending the knee back at about 2/3 fully bent it clicks. Not sure if its something to worry about or not, but mine does hurt a tiny bit when it clicks.

Hopefully the MRI will show whats going on in there.
