Title: Arthofibrosis & Chronic Pain
Post by: Zaideh on June 21, 2012, 12:19:16 AM
This is my first post and I have some questions before my doctor visit next week.   I had a total left knee replacement in '04 that resulted in severe arthofibrosis and chronic pain (I'm in my middle 60's & retired).  Docs did a revision a year later and I've been on increasing dosages of opiod narcotics ever since. I'm seriously considering amputation if it would get rid of the pain and the prosthesis would allow increased mobility.

All that said does anyone know of a doc that specializes in knee arthofibrosis in the Wash. DC metro area?  My current health plan is a large HMO that has done a good job w/me to date.  I can ask for an out-of-plan referral and would probably get it, but if not I'd be willing to go out of pocket for initial consult.

Thanks in advance,
Zaideh

The information hub on kneegeeks doesn't show any surgeon listings in Washington DC, but there is a list of them for Washington here: http://www.kneeguru.co.uk/KNEEnotes/node/347. I am not certain whether they specialize in knee arthofibrosis.

One of the experts in arthrofibrosis is Dr. Frank Noyes at Cincinnati Sports Medicine. He would surely be worth the out-of-pocket for a consultation. You probably know plenty about the condition now, but this might be useful too: http://www.kneeguru.co.uk/KNEEnotes/node/2268
