Title: MCL isolated injury, chronic pain & swelling anyone?
Post by: Hopfulnee on June 02, 2012, 05:20:55 PM
have not posted in awhile, but would love to hear from anyone dealing with similar injury...I'm into year 2 with MCL sprain II, have chronic medial swelling, pain which is exacerbated by exercise. Second MRI just came back, OS says MCL looks better, still shows mild effusion but no other damage to other collateral ligaments or meniscus. Just got third cortisone injection, have done three rounds of PT inc. Graston for scar tissue but therapist said nothing else can do for me now, and PT sometimes left me limping for a week or two after. Worse, my good knee is starting to hurt too from putting in so much overtime for R knee!  Misery loves company,so would love to hear from fellow sufferers!  Thanks :)

No fellow sufferers for now, it looks like. How are things going with you?

Kneepaincure, thanks for your kind reply. Most recent cortisone shot took a week to work,  and swelling went away for a week before returning again. It sure was nice while it lasted, though, almost like a regular knee! What  are you doing for your tilted knees, sounds like you've been at it for quite some time?

So is there nothing else your OS said they can do for you besides shots? I am not familiar with ligament injuries, but it must be tough to hear them say that you have to just deal with it.

I do regular exercises for my knees; almost like a prescription for me, but it beats getting cut up any day. :)

Going to see my OS again in a couple of weeks. last time he told me he's stumped but not to worry, he,s not giving up on me yet.He has told me he only wants to scope my knee as last resort. Caring as he is, now I wish I had gone to the OS who is the director of this practice, I believe he has more exp. with scar tissue.it would be really hard for me to do, but I might ask for a referral. It's that or start over at a brand new practice (again)but I like this one,as well as their PT dept. I am willing to work hard to get better, like you, but my knee won't tolerate a whole lot. What would you do?

It's hard for me to say that because I don't know what it's like to deal with your injury, but I think it's perfectly fine to seek out someone who you think can help you. It's your knee after all and no need to be hesitant about finding someone competent enough to deal with it.

You're right, I need to find the best care for my knee. I'll just have to be honest with my current OS, and really he might be glad to be rid of me!  thanks  :)
