Title: Ruptured Patella Tendon. What now!!?
Post by: verbal on February 17, 2011, 02:52:10 PM
Hi guys firstly i'd like to say fab site.. I've been reading quietly as a guest but thought i'd go for the personal approach :)

I ruptured my patella tendon on Jan 21st, Operation was on Feb 10th and am currently in a 10 bend full leg plaster (in black may I add). I'm having my staples out next Tuesday and am expecting to be in plaster for another 5-7 weeks, then a 30 ROM leg brace for i'm not sure how long.

What happens then guys? I'm totally new to all this, never had a day off on the sick before (34yrs old). I had a claustrophobic panic the other day with my leg, is this normal? ??? I'm getting a bit pee'd off not being able to carry a cuppa into the living room!! Which now houses my bed btw..

How long off work is expected? Driving? Cycling?

It'll be great to hear your experiences and tips.

Thanks you :)

These two threads will give you no end of help and support. Just join in and they will welcome you with open arms! John42 is the Granddaddy who has an enormous amount of material collected in data format that he can pass on to help you understand your injury. Quadriceps tendon is the name given to the upper part of the patella tendon (i.e above the knee cap) and patella tendon is the name given to the bit that includes the kneecap itself and the lower section i.e below the kneecap). But I believe from reading the posts that the surgery and rehab is almost identical.
