Title: Seemingly Contradictory Symptoms - Possible Meniscus Injury
Post by: rrs on February 08, 2011, 01:31:13 AM
Hi everyone. I'm so glad I found this board.

I injured my knee two days ago. I have never had a history of any knee problems. It is so dumb; I was sitting on the floor and pulled myself up in an awkward position, and it felt like I "jammed" my knee, if that makes any sense. It hurt bad and I went down fast.

I have been to see a doctor (not a knee specialist yet) and he said possible meniscus injury, either strain or tear. He admitted that was a guess.

What's weird to me is there has been no swelling, no bruising at all. I can completely bend my knee inward, from a sitting or lying down position, without pain. I can push with my foot and move my foot and leg around freely.

Two things I can't do are: extend my leg fully or walk on it. If sitting, I can get up with both knees bent and bear my entire body weight without pain. If I try to stand up normally, the right leg begins to hurt.

I am wondering if anyone has had a similar experience. I have been doing all this reading and searching online and can't seem to find anyone whose symptoms match mine.

Thanks for listening!

Robin

Wow, 45 people read this and nobody has anything to say at all? Bummer. Well I will report back when I find out what's going on so at least someone who comes on here w/a similar problem can use the info later, since it looks like they would get a deafening silence if they asked!

Sorry, Robin, the right person hasn't read your post yet. Give it a little time, maybe, and do some reading in the information hub and see if anything sparks an idea with you. There is some diagnostic information in there that might help.

People are very friendly and extremely helpful here, but are not experts and are not paid to give advice. You will get more support if you do not answer your own questions, and also develop a wee bit of humility and patience.

I am currently carrying an injury that presents itself in a similar manner to what you describe - I am fairly sure it is a meniscus tear based on my previous experience and what I have learnt here. I am nursing it to enable me to get through the ski season and a 3 week paragliding holiday in South Africa. If the pain gets too bad or it interferes too much with my skiing I will go to my doctor for professional advice and treatment.

Go to a doctor and get some advice then come back and try to exchange information with those on the Meniscus Board who have been through various treatments.  ::)

It's not the time amount, it's the fact that 45 people looked at this and no one said anything. Maybe it was people who had a similar problem and wanted answers too? I mean if someone felt the need to read a topic with that specific of a title, they must have experienced a similar issue. So why not say something.

As the original post said, I have been to the doctor. I've read the info resources and searched a LOT, otherwise I wouldn't have asked the question.

I don't believe I've answered my own question. I asked because I am doubting it actually is a meniscus problem. Some of the symptoms seem "off".

I will still come back and give info so that people can use it. I just got annoyed (as you did). It happens, we can move on.

Hi rrs I'm sorry you felt as if no one cared enough to post a reply after 45 people viewed it but I think lots of folk are like me and when its a new post I have a wee read to see if there is something i can help with or not, but unfortunatly I know very little about the meniscus [even though there is a chance I have some damage to mine I have just discovered] anyway good luck with finding out what the problem is, how about going to a physio thats an idea while your waiting to see a OS.
Take care Tez
