Title: Injury yesterday, in bad pain
Post by: tony1233 on February 04, 2010, 10:47:03 PM
hello again all, yesterday in gym class we were playing football and a guy went to tackle me and when he did, I spun ( smart, I know  ::) ) So as I turned I felt a very painful and loud "POP" in my knee and immediately hit the ground in pain. Next thing I knew I was on my way to the hospital in the back of an ambulance. In the ER they could only do X-rays because it hurt too bad for the doctor to do any ligament tests. The knee is VERY swollen today and painful. I have gotten some of my flexion back however, it is still very painful to try and "roll" my whole leg (ie. from the hip) . DO you guys ahve any advice for what I can do until I can get the ligament tests done ?

Thanks,

Tony

Hi Tony,
agree with the RICE advice, unsure of MEAT, what it means. Keep the knee relaxed and elevated minimum wt bearing. Good luck.

Hi Toni

Sounds very much like you have injured your ACL.  Definitely RICE and keep the leg elevated as said, try not to put too much weight on it until you get your tests done.  Good luck, hope its not too bad.

update there guys, I went to my doctor and he told me that it seems as though I have a torn or ruptured MCL. I'
m waiting to get an appointment to see my Orthapedic Suregon. I'm on my crutches at least until the suregon tells me I'm good to get off of them.... any advice or tips while I'm waiting for the OS appointment ?

Tony,

Carry on with the RICE and also try to SLIGHTLY bend your knee now and again to stop your knee becoming completely stiff and seizing up but be very careful not to overdo it, other than that I would say just take it easy, rest as much as you can and be careful.  Hope its not too bad a tear.  Good luck.

Natalie.

A partial torn MCL is no biggy.. Not sure what they'll do if its a complete tear though.

Do as everyone else said, RICE; then once the swelling goes down hop up on the stationary bike--the MCL will tighten back up on its own..
