Title: Knee and outer leg pain
Post by: Kayakadam on November 11, 2008, 06:42:33 PM
Hi all

Basically I am an whitewater kayaker and I squeeze myself into a small boat for extended periods of time. Last weekend I did a 4 hour paddle and since I have had a dull aching pain down the outside of my right knee and in the outside of my ankle. While in the kayak I sit with my legs fairly split, knees level with the bottom of my ribcage and feet pointing diagnally outwards. If that makes any sense? Basically I was wondering what might be wrong with my leg/knee and what would be the best course of action to repair any damage and stop it from happening again, it probably has only occured for the last 4 weeks or so but it is a nightmare when trying to drive!

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Many thanks

well unfortunately there is never really a way to diagnose knee issues unless you go see a specialist. theres too many things that can go on in there..maybe you just bruised the bone, maybe you pushed your patella slightly out of tracking..maybe just overuse issues from being in that position too long..weekend is coming why not try:

take ibuprofen or NSAID a couple times per day for the next few days, ice it 3 times per day for 20  minutes,,rest it and also message it after hot showers..if by monday its still an your doctor or OS for a check.better to nip it right away than wait and interfere with your happy kayaking moments ;)
