Title: Are ankle weights good or bad for your knees?
Post by: kt100 on August 28, 2008, 10:16:31 PM
I'm thinking of buying some ankle weights as I have a mild disability that makes me a little unseady on my feet, but am wondering whether they will benefit or damage my knees.  I have quite high ridden knee and have been getting a bit of pain in them so do not want to make them any worse.  I walk with my knees slightly bent (which could be the reason for their bad allignment), so I was thinking that they may help this, but I heard ankle weights can damage ur joints.

Hi KT

I can't speak as a pro so I reckon consulting with your Doctor and/or a Physiotherapist before using weights would be best. I can't see how they could do damage as long as you did the exercises correctly but I'd check first with a professional.

Check with your OS or PT - my PT said No - it puts too much strain on the Joint.
