Title: Numbers.........What comes next??
Post by: Patty0513 on December 09, 2007, 07:16:08 PM
I have absolutely no life right now, so I thought I would start a thread that would be easy for me to participate in.  I am hoping that Liz will jump in here and that she will also provide some help for me when required.

Okay, I am going to start with 1.  Although maybe I should start with 0?  ???  Oh heck, it is my thread and I choose to start with 1.  Next??  ;D

I hope I did that right. ???

I can write that out in my language...

Jeez, my twin is already trying to confuse me.  TVÅ is not a number, it is an acronym for Tennessee Valley Authority.  So, now do I reply with a number, an acronym, or both?   ???  Why does everything have to be so difficult?  :P

My reply, with no help from the math whiz, is 3.  Whew, I can tell that things are going to get difficult for me, very quickly.  ;D

According to my mathematical genius, and the spreadsheet I'll need to maintain to keep track, :P  the next number in the sequence is (http://www.clipartguide.com/_small/0060-0503-2815-3818.jpg).

And, given that Trouble has decided to ratchet up the challenge by turning this also into a spelling lesson, in MY language, that is FOUR. WHEW!!

This is going way too fast for me.........I need more time to come up with the right answers.  And Liz, I thought I was in charge of the spreadsheets??

I think that 7 comes after 6.  And in my language that would be evensay.   ;D

(http://www.manhattanrarebooks-history.com/lawrence%20-%20seven%20pillars.jpg) Patty, Trouble, Liz, Rozzzie, Kat, Tiff and Anja?  Beth?

And of course here in NV, that would be (http://www.artistdirect.com/Images/Sources/AMGCOVERS/music/cover200/drg000/g044/g04422vlfau.jpg)  We have no need for 8 - 10 here.  :)

Hey, Hey...way to go, number 8!

And three cheers... or should we bestow nine cheers :-\ ...for nimble number (http://www.loot-bag.co.uk/data/images/pinnumber9.jpg) who is always ready to step up in a pinch and play surrogate to that slouch, number 6.    :'(

How's that for talent? Thanks number NINE for your valuable contribution!!

According to my extensive research, next up is (http://www.freefoto.com/images/2000/10/2000_10_4---Number-Ten_web.jpg)

And a big pat on the back to the number 1, for having the fortitude and guts to break that single cycle and take a partner, the number 0.......that I probably should have started this thread with.   :P  As a reward for going against the grain, 10 is considered the pinnacle.........things are rated on a scale of 1 - 10, with 10 being the best you can achieve.

If it weren't for the bravery of the number 1, we would be stuck with only 10 numbers and Bo Derek would have been only a 9.  Although she isn't even a 1 in my book.......in my book, this guy is a 10.  (http://lh5.google.com/vic400/RnWUCfXWvhI/AAAAAAAAAaQ/uuzFBDtnrIM/sm6.jpg?imgmax=400)

On a side note, 10 is the number I always wore when playing sports.........in honor of my favorite 10 (http://www.nflhistory.org/museum/hof/tark.jpg) Fran Tarkenton.   :)

OK, first the Swede tries to confuse me, and very nearly succeeds, and now the Canuck has come to her aid.  :P  I do not speak Canuckian  ;), so honestly don't know what Sue's answer was, so Sue, if I am duplicating your answer..........I apologize.  :)

The next number is (http://www.theforbiddenknowledge.com/hardtruth/11.gif)  And once again, I have to give props to the number 1.  The number 1 is not only willing to go against the grain (see my previous post), but is also a very hard worker, pulling double duty here.  I have always admired those that are more than willing to do their share of work and to go out of their way to make a solid contribution to society.  Number 1, my hat's off to you.......(http://www.oscefa.org.au/images/Just%20the%20Hat.jpg)

This was me at my last birthday (http://www.maniatvblog.com/cjchristy/uploaded_images/Sweet16-733534.jpg)  :)  and also happens to be the next number in line.

Liz, I remember the reason for starting this thread, besides testing my math skills, and it just isn't working.  I still feel like a worthless (http://freespace.virgin.net/i.lamb/pics/slug.gif) slug.  :P  Maybe I need to post more??  Will spending more time on this site and posting more frequently make me feel like I am being productive and a contributing member of society??   ::)  Help me out here..........I am bored to  :'(.

A good number, the day my birthday falls on.

Also awarding 17 bonus point to Patty, for realising that there are some people who do feel valued and believe that they're making a difference here.

Take my own situation, spent upwards of 20 years working in big retail outlets and a huge call centre, never less than 400 people. Most of that time spent in management positions so spent the majority of my time talking to people, encouraging, sympathising, or kicking butt if needed.

To move out here in the middle of the prairies, where I'm chief homemaker, part time tractor driver, book keeper, head combine driver and calf rearer, is a shock. I love living out here, but it's a province of 251, 700 square miles and only 985,386 people. That means on the rare times when we can afford the time and money to be away from the farm, there aren't many people about.

It may not be for everyone, but when you're in a new country, with no family here, still building a network of friends, and you don't have to be in the workplace, it feels great to be part of a community, and to interact frequently with people. It's insightful of you to realise this

I also have no life,  did some research on this one and it apparently is a big numerology thing

It takes 23 seconds for blood to circulate through the body

And lastly, it is a prime number and if you add the 2 and 3 you get another prime number:   5

Jeez, I spend days figuring out what number comes next and Diana posts the answer before I can.  :'(  ;)  Luckily my math and counting tutor was readily accessible and I was able to cheat figure out what the next number is:

(http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:oeVh71pjUr3J1M:http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/83/I-24.svg/600px-I-24.svg.png) (This is one that I have never been lost interstating on  ;D)

24 is a nonagonal number and is the smallest number with exactly 8 divisors: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12 and 24.
The product of any 4 consecutive numbers is divisible by 24.
24 is the number that Willie Mays wore.
24 is the atomic number of chromium......which is a component of the metal in several brands of TKA components.
24 is the number of bits that a computer needs to represent truecolor images.
Pure gold is 24 carats.
The Greek alphabet has 24 characters.
24 is considered an unlucky number in Cantonese culture because its pronounication is similar to that of "easy to die".
And of course, 24 is the numbers of hours that one can waste in one day.  ::)

38 would be next..and now something about that...
38 Special (pronounced "Thirty-eight Special") is a rimmed, centerfire cartridge designed by Smith & Wesson. It is most commonly used in revolvers, although semi-automatic pistols and some carbines also use this round. The .38 Special was the standard service cartridge of most police departments in the United States from the 1920s to the 1980s. In other parts of the world, particularly Europe, it is known by its metric designation 9x29mmR.

In american football, 66 is nearly synonymous with former Green Bay Packers linebacker Ray Nitschke.
The last Packer to wear number 66 before it was retired in 1983 to honor Nitschke was offensive tackle Larry Pfohl who is better known to pro wrestling fans as Lex Luger.
