Title: Cartilage Transplant using CARES system - shorter op & rehab
Post by: gammyknee on October 16, 2006, 10:30:52 PM

This is my first post and I've been an avid reader of all of the posts related to ACI (was approaching the op with a lot of trepidation after reading some of the post-op diaries). Fully expected to have the, by now, standard ACI procedure but surgeon has now informed me that I am having a relatievely new procedure with a very different approach.

Cartilage will be implanted using a 3D membrane rather that the traditional 2D - no need for piece of bone to seal in cartilage cells, op. now about 45 mins rather then over an hour and should be able to put full weight on knee after 6 weeks.

Anyone already got experience of this approach to ACI?
