Hey Ellie HS!!!- really good to hear from you!!
So how is it - any better? you are def right about keeping up the exercises - I have serious muscle ache and only had 3 months off work - actually went to bed at 9pm yesterday! unheard of for me - still sleeping crap but at least going to bed then gave me a good 3 hrs before I woke up!
Congratulations on your qualification - absolutely no idea what HS stands for - but obviously means you are painting at a very high standard!
Are you back at work yet? full time / part time? - It's hard going back!
Take care - send me an email and tell me all about the rehab (please ;D)

sounds like this hamstring needs some stretching and strengthening
Hi There
Unfortunately unless you have suffered chronic pain it is very difficult to sumpathise with othere - and also once you no longer are suffering from that pain it is very quickly forgotten! - Prob 95 % of the time I have no pain now but about once a day my knee gives me a sharp reminder - and for some reason it is always at night grrrr.
I have only been swimming once since I had my knee done - which I know is really bad - I used to swim every week - but when I went post tkr my Knee HURT so much where being supported by the water I found that I was able to bent it too far and I don't want to risk pushing it too far and causing damage - once the muscles are in total control I expect I will go again - lost my nerve a bit there!
Hi Ellenmarie
I am female , 44 and like in kent in the UK. I have an 18 yr old daughter who is at university and a 16 yr old son who is taking his A levels and is mad about rugby - he has just gone back to rugby after having his ruptured acl repaired last year.
I am married and work full time.
I initially injured my knee when I was 18 (gymnastics accident) had ruptured acl and all cartalidge removed - acl not repaired.
Over the years the OA gradually got worse which lead to tkr in july this year - best thing I ever did. My other knee is quite good - aches and pains for compensating for so long - but hopefully will recover soon.
how about you?

HI E
So sorry you hurt again? Do you have crutches ? I pulled my left leg hamstring last week and the crutches really did help. The GP wont be able to do much except maybe give you pain pills or sleeping meds. Ice may help.
Today, I felt like I was dragging my ass into work. I did so much walking today..
Take care,
Annie
33 more sleeps till my TKR
HI Ellen
Currently I am back with the family. Good Old mom and dad. I would be struggling too much to be on my own and frankly not having to worry about rent right now is a blessing. Just the car payment and well bills. I will be working up until the day of my TKR. I expect to be in the St Joseph's trauma center -paterson nj for three days and than transported to Kessler rehab in NJ or maybe St Joseph's wayne general in nj (10-14)days. This way I have inpatient rehab and have pain management and well really to be in the best setting to be agresssive with getting my range of motion back.
As far as pain, I never had any problems with my OS giving me Percocet. Or in a pinch he had called in Vicodin or loracet. .. Also in the past he has prescribed ambiem. I feel he is a gift from God at times. When I see how other OS's are.
The house here is two story. I am very experienced with Crutches. I had drilling into my femur early this year. . I remember those days when getting to the first floor was a treat. Actually I had all my TV shows in my room and came down at night to be with family. or Out the door to Aqua therapy.
I was wondering if you are putting ice on that knee ? or have a kyro cuff with compression ? Ice takes away pain better than drugs most of the time for me .. Well currently with out a TKR. How many weeks post TKR are you ?
Hi
Sorry not about too much just what with working full time and family/house stuff - time just gets eaten up so quickly.
Pain is such a PITA - it does get you down but you will come back up again.
I have not had a tramadol since last sunday but still having some withdrawals - didn't think it would affect me this long - having to have paracetamol and voltorol since coming off the stronger stuff - it was obviously still doing good pain relief - but I will only take the tramadol when it is unbearable.
Went christmas shopping today - that was really hard work - got to the shops at 9.30 and got back home at 6!!!! - half way through the day I went and bought some trainers as my feet and knee were killing me in my boots! - otherwise I would have had to go home - we had about 4 coffee stops as well, but got so much done and it is all wrapped as well - just five more presents to buy for relatives then can start on my two children and husband!
Got leg elevated now and large glass of wine - and a huge Toblerone ;D - ate 3 pieces and have had enough of that.
Going to get more presents and collect dry cleaning tomorrow then off to my nieces first birthday ;D
Hope you have a good weekend.
gonna have an early night! - talking of which - Ellenmarie - nothing wrong with going to bed at six - I would love that - I find that when I am in pain the best thing I can do is sleep (that is when I can get to sleep with pain - sometimes hard to do)
Hey Hoppy!!!!! good to see ya!!! ;D ;D ;D
Have sent you emails dunno whats happening there - sort yerself out girl - think those paint fumes are getting to ya - have sent you a nice long PM. ;D ;D
Hey Anja: Thank you so much for "listening" and writing back. You are the only one i have talked to about any of this. I also do not know how to post with hiting the quote button first. Any pointers? Where do you get all the energy and i wish i had some. I barely get laundry done when i get home, never mind yardwork. I dont want to be a PITA to the OS. I just cant believe its been 24 hours and no response. It's really starting to get to me, pain and all. You are so lucky to be able to do what you do after TKR, i am soo jealous.
Ellenmarie'
It was a very long weekend - all that shopping - was meant to be at work for 3 hrs today and finally left after 7! - cut the grass - front and back then ripped the kitchen apart - all tidy again! ;D - just having a sit down till my lovely hubbie gets home - about 7.30 and gonna have liver and bacon - yummy yummy. Totally knackered now - got backache ::) must be the lawnmower!
looking forward to you getting broadband set up!
look after yerself and tigger! ;D - Oh yeah forgot to say WELL DONE - one stone - thats is great - I have put on 4 lbs oops
Ellenmarie,
hey it could be that your os is busy - theatre or something - hopefully it won't be too long before he gets back to you - might be better to email him. - Have you asked your GP?
Anja,
well maybe when you win the lottery...
Egypt - how cool!!!! What a lucky kid. What did you do for your daughters 18th?
my OS appt is jan 11 too, my 3 month check up.
take care
Hi Ellenmarie
good to hear from you - sorry that you are having problems!
Think my probs are only because of overuse - my job is 10 hrs a day on my feet - so not the best but pays the bills - prob nothing more serious than overwork! I go on Thurs to see the OS but will prob only get to see the registrar and to be perfectly honest they really just ask how its going and you say okay and say whats going on and they just say rest it and give it time!
take care and keep in touch

Need to winge, sorry.......
I am trying to come to terms with the fact that I have a disability and I'm not coping that well. I thought by now I would be back to 'normal'. Tigger and I were painting the bedroom last night (have finished and it looks great) I was sat on the floor behind the bed cutting in and needed to get up. I got stuck! I didn't have enough room to get in in the strange manner that I have become accustomed to! So I sat and cried! Tigger had to grab me under my arms and lift me up and I'm not a small girl
Hi Clunky! ;D
I idn't get this clunk until a few weeks ago - and then it stopped but came back yesterday. I too made very fast progress and was even doing the stairs at 4 days. - wil jsut see how it goes afterall I am nearly 8 months post op!!
Good Luck with your 3 mnth check up!
Hey Congratulations Bonnie!! - Isn't it amazing how when you first have it done you think you have mad the biggest mistake of your life!! - They say Time heals!!
hey annie - I know it is the back of the leg but where does it end - or what is the muscle or tendon called that runs at the back on the inner side of the knee?
aha - it the semi tendinosus bit!! ;D Thank you.
This bit 'catches' and I suppose the only way to describe it is that it like pings like an elastic band ??? - not what I would say is painful - more discomfort for the moment it does it and makes me cautious to make the next movement.
OS talk for : Watch it means stop bellying aching right now prob something temp.. . Lets see how long you can tolerate it with out complaining again.. Keep excercising.. blah blah.. blah blah.. Than finally after three months.. they shoot you up with some cortizone.. maybe.. :)
progress report. This morning felt medial pain on left knee. It's been five hours since shot .. been told not to walk this afternoon and ice it. So far I feel my knee has a bit less biting pain when I go up stairs. So instead of my left knee the old good knee hurting more.. I am back to the bad old knee the right knee just giving me minor discomfort.
I have four more shots to go...
This shot was more painful than I recalled. I think it is because I have more cartlidge in my left knee than I ever did in my right knee. Which while it sounds weird that it is painful .. I am hoping it will be able to act like the shock absorbers that it played up to be. PLus the fact when I had injections in my right knee I started to feel the most pain relief the next night and after each additional shot.. So I feel I am in a pretty good spot.
Also my os is so funny .. he asked about my mom and the one and only time she met him was in the hospital. Her leg is pretty bad and he reminds me that it is only going to get worse and worse . So I was telling him how frustrating it was to be always asking her to go see the OS. Than he said why dont you just ask her to go with the next visit so she can be your support. I said to him.. If she was at all interested in being there for my support she would have been there during those tuff moments prior to my TKA when I was most needed her support. all and all i found closure to the fact that I do not need people about when I see a doctor. I just find the right doctors and learn all i can.. and I will be fine.
actually this sounds harsh.. but to a certain extent maybe a life lesson on being strong for yourself.
Lump above knee - anyone else got this - just around the area where the top 'computer navigation hole' was has gone very thick and lumpy - not hurting just odd?
Patty you can ask whatever you like !! doesn't mean I will answer!!Gosh, what kind of attitude is that?? I happily answer any and all questions.
trouble is really that everytime I crave a cigarette I eat!! need to think more about not putting that food in my mouth! But at least I have not had a cigarette for 7 months
well I would rather be fat than in pain!!
