Title: Knee Help
Post by: bscbsc on June 11, 2006, 01:47:42 AM
about a year ago i was badly hurt in a soccer game, a player hit the inside of my right knee causing it to bend out to the right, i heard a snap, got xrays and saw doctors they said it was okay, but everytime i try to return to the game and start running my knee gives out and snaps once again, and it hasnt been fixed since. when it snaps i get swelling to the right of my knee cap. does anyone know what could have happened or what action i should take to fix this problem ?

thx bsc

x-rays do not show meniscal or ligament damage, you need an MRI.  Fire your "doctors" and find an orthopedic surgeon--ASAP.  The fact that your leg is unstable is indicative of internal damage--most likely a torn ACL (at the very least) from the way you describe things.

Don't both with regular doctors (hospital ER, urgent care, non-specialists) or GP's (the so-called family doctor).  You need to see a knee specialist, which is under the category of "orthopedic surgeon."

And as long as your leg is collapsing, please stay away from running and soccer.  Each time it buckles you run the risk of injuring something else.  Here is some reading on the topic--  (read all of the tabs).

If you want to post your general location, someone may be able to direct you to a very good knee specialist.  There is also a list of orthopedic surgeons on the main kneeguru page.

in referance to your accident i as a rugby player did the same thing to my left knee. I spent Six Weeks in a cast and  four weeks in  traction Brace.

Although I can walk running eludes me  and time elapsed is 8 monthes since the torn ligament happend ,i agree with the last poster you need to get a second oppion.
