Title: nightime locking
Post by: sa4545 on May 23, 2006, 03:47:29 PM
Hi everyone-- have a 44 year old, 6 time surgeried rt knee (torn cart, debris removal, acl replace, tighten, etc.,) question is -- Has anyone ever experienced terrible pain and locking while sleeping? Seems ridiculous that while I am asleep, (on stomach) I frequently wake up in pain as bad knee is sort of locked and in pain until I move it, then pain fades away, and knee is pretty much fine the next morning.  Have just had MRI, which confirms no new tears or damage, but am having occasional locking and pain.  Any help is appreciated!

Do you wake up with your knee locked in straight position or bend ?
Was thinking of if you hyperextend and therefor your knee feels like locked in straight position.

I think it is straight-- guess it could be hyperextended

Maybe you have to work on your muscles to avoid it happen or talk with your doc trying get a brace to use when you sleep which prevent you hyperextend.
I have those problems too..but for me is that I have no muscles and can't build any because of my injuries I have all together. I have a brace which prevents that.

It sounds strange, but it feels as if the lower part of the leg has dropped below the knee joint-- sort of like it's unaligned.  Am on a wait and see mode with ortho-- have some daytime locking/catching occuring usually when going up or down stairs-- he seems more concerned on that point-- says I am "pinching the knee capsule" ? For the most part am having more good days then bad, so am ok with waiting.
