Title: daughters upcoming surgery
Post by: mrmkbk on March 20, 2006, 01:13:17 AM
April 5th is closing in on us pretty fast.  My daughter is having her ACL replaced, MCL fixed, torn meniscus with some cartiledge damage also.  What should she be doing or not doing leading up to her surgery.  Any tips pre-op and post op would be so much appreciated.

thanks,   bryan and brittney

Any strengthening exercises as approved by OS or physio will be useful (obviously depending on pain and ability). Other than that probably not too much apart from being prepared for after surgery, there are things which many people find useful while on crutches such as a backpack or bumbag, a lidded mug, plenty of ice packs in the freezer (or ice if you have a cryocuff), lots of fruit (to help combat the effects on digestion of some of the painkillers), lots of books/magazines and plenty of batteries for the remote controls. Don't forget to listen carefully when the surgeon or other staff go through the rehab protocol with you so you know exactly what she is meant to be doing.

Good luck x
