Title: Just got back from the doctor today!!!
Post by: hockeygirl4 on January 24, 2006, 08:31:17 PM
He said, my acl, mcl, lcl and all cartilidge is in tact but my PCL is torn.  Grade I/II tear not requiring surgery! YAY!!  Did prescribe PT for 3 weeks to learn the exercises, and a PCL stabilizing brace for when i play sports.
I asked him about the pushing behind my kneecap thinking the cartilidge was damaged and he said that my PCL is torn and elongated so when i am bending, my tibia is sliding causing my quadriceps to pull on my kneecap and force it back and rubbing against the femur and tibia. Other than that, my knee is totally healthy, it's just a matter of strengthening!

I posted my history of pain a while ago, probably early December, and just had the appointment today!

Anybody with strengthening exercise history and successes??

I'm excited to start them, probably be drinking beer after doing them though! lol

you should find a PT familiar with a conservative treatment for a torn PCL. Also an athletic trainer for stregthening execises for athletes with a torn PCL.

I'm in the midst of a conservative treatment for a torn ACL and a healing meniscus.

Before you get too excited about avaiding surgery, you should be aware that if you do participate in pivot sports with a torn curciate ligament, you will not be playing at your highest level. The brace will slow you down, and does not guarantee your knee will not move enough to cause damage to the meniscii.

It's been a struggle for me as I gear down my competitive sports, not sure how it will turn out. But, I'm avoidiong surgery today due to the lack of pain and no instability. I have given up baserball and skiing for now....

Yep, that's what I'm going to research now, preferably a sports therapy place. There's a couple where I live.  I have been playing sports with this injury since 1997 and none of my doctors have done anything until now. They basically all refused to give me a referrel to see a knee specialist bcuz they thought it was not necessary.  Low and behold, i guess they were wrong! lol
I've been playing hockey on it, even after the knee on knee hit i took a couple weeks ago and it's been feeling better, still cautious on it though.  The only other sport i play is volleyball and slow pitch softball during the summer.  I'm on three softball teams so I will try out the brace before attempting that.

I know how you feel though, not being able to play 100%.  I just give it all i have and hope to make it through the games!
