Title: 7.5 weeks post ACL recon OS visit
Post by: sparkle999 on December 15, 2005, 04:53:58 PM
Hi there
I was really nervous seeing him today. I had been up at 6 .30 am had hydrotherapy a bit later, picked up kids, had lunch out and then gone to my appt.

All the news is good I think. He was delioghted that mt ROM was full, seeing as that was the hurdle aftre the injury, and he said my muscle strength was good, even better than expected. He was a little surprised I was doing so well cos the original injury was quite traumatic, but he wasn't complaining. Said my problems with stairs were to be expected cos of the kneecap injury and that I just need to keep practising with support. He's keen for mr to continue the hydro. said it's excellent for kneecap problems as it gets you to do things functionally that you can't do on 'land'.

Both my PT and the hydro PT had spoken to him about how I was doing. He gave me a good talking to about the next 6 weeks being crucial and I was not to push it. Told me I need to increase my workouts in baby steps and NEVER without asking my PT first. Said that this next 6 weeks is a dangerous time for me because I feel ok, have good strength, but MUST NOT fall over, trip up, do anything silly(read 'fun').

I told him I wanted him to check my graft but I couldn't relax enough. He said my muscles were guarding it(happened after the injury too). He refused to give it a really good TUG and said I'd have to wait for the next appt in 8 weeks.

So I'm pretty happy. I think I'm the sort of person that will always have worries and concerns, just the way I'm made and I SOOOOOO MUCH want this to work and be the only time I have to go through this awful business! I know you all feel the same

i guess it's time for an update!

I go back to work on thursday and will be 10.5 weeks post op. I know this is ages but i timed it that way cos i'm a teacher so the last 3 weeks were not sick leave.

My knee is getting stronger all the time. I don't realy need to rest it now...only occasionally and I don't ice anymore. Currently trying to get the strength built up but also haveing treatments to free up the quad tendon area as it's gummed up and makes going down steps difficult. I had not been able to do one leg squats AT ALL in a controlled way. It's like i had no control over the first few degrees of the squat. Anyway, my PT did a really hard hard it's bruised today and afterwards I could do loads more stuff so I'm hopeful!

I am gymming 4 or 5 days a week least every other day and felling good. As calways, I am still worried about the graft and the knee pain etc...but....who here isn't?
Take care

Hi Sparkle,

You are one of my support systems.  I am glad to hear you are doing good.  You had your surgery a couple weeks before mine.  I really appreciate you sharing your progress.  It gives me a heads up on what to expect.  I saw my doctor a couple of weeks ago.  I don't have my next appointment until February 15.  The day before I leave town. I am going through that careful stage also, that's why I didn't go out for New Year's this year.

Please keep me posted of your knee pain.  I pray that it will go away soon.

I think you hit the nail on the head so to speak, Sparkle Girl; the ambiguous area between the injured knee and the fixed knee is just plain awful.  Glad to hear you're doing well and hopes that the future TUG will let you sleep better.
