Title: Limited ROM..Just cut it off

I am 44, almost 4 months TKR and have very limited rom..I have had 12 ops, and a recent MUA. I have almost given up emotionally I feel like I would rather have it amputated. My doc says I just need to "work" it. My hamstring is so tight it squeaks. Is there any way to make your hamstring longer? I plan on skiing anyway, at least on the bunny slope!! :'(

The best thing to do when you have a recurring problem with scar tissue is to see an expert in treating this condition.  You have a unique situation in that the TKR adds a new dimension, and it affects the way this condition is treated.  So I really urge you to find an expert who has dealt with TKR's.  I know one other person with extreme ROM limitations following TKR at age 42.  She traveled to two cities to see experts, and got two very different recommendations.  She's struggling still, because one of the recommendations really was for amputation.  I don't think she's ready to do that.  But it shows how much this problem can impact your life.

Read up on arthrofibrosis in both sections and post the general region where you live--hopefully someone can point you in the right direction to start getting this treated.  Your current surgeon is clearly in over his head....

just keep stretching the hamstring. I read that if you hold the stretch for 30 seconds 3-4 times a day it will lengthen the muscle!
