Um..This may be a stupid question but i was wondering...When u bend down and up and hear a crack(s)..what is actually happening in your knee?  Is it bad for the knee? or is it just something that happens?   When i walk up the stairs i hear a series of cracks in my left knee...which isnt my injured i was just wondering! thanks!  (and please dont laugh if everyone knows the answers except for me lol!!)

No question is stupid if you do not know the answer!  How else will you learn.  What I've been told is that if the cracks don't hurt then they are probably harmless.  Sometimes it's a tendon or ligament moving over a bone other times who knows.  Others may have a better understanding of what can cause them, but if the're not causing you discomfort or pain you shouldn't worry about them.

Yea, like Rozzie said if it doesnt cause pain its probably not anything to worry about, esecially in your good knee. I have cracking, grinding  and popping continually in my knees and my OS said it was from the rough underside of my kneecap getting caught on my femur..eww! lol
