Title: ACL SUREGERY
Post by: lizzy4312 on July 01, 2005, 10:35:19 PM
;D Hi all! i had acl surgery in early march, so around four months ago. before my surgery I enjoyed riding and showing my horses as well as basketball. Then i tore my acl completly and my meniskus(sp) I am now very anxious to get back to riding and am wondering approx. how long it can be. I can jog 2 miles or so in a straight line as well as shooting baskets etc and have no knee pain at all.. So how long will it be before I can ride? Have any of you had a similar experience? If so how long was it before u could ride ???? Thanks  a lot

Liz,

Hi and welcome to the board.  A lot of people here are riders.  Sorry about your injury.  If you look in the 'Specialist's Office' then 'Cruciate Ligaments' - you should find many postst regarding ACL.
Also, if you look in the 'Rehab Dept.' under 'Post-op Diary' you will find people's personal stories of recovery from different types of surgeries.

Good luck,

Liz ~ I completely tore my ACL in April & have a meniscus tear along with a torn medial collateral ligament. No repair contemplated because of my age. However, I am riding again & find that it doesn't bother me at all. I'm very careful dismounting & just land on my left (good) leg rather than trusting the right leg will hold me. I liken it to wearing my stabilizer brace in that my horse's body, the saddle & stirrup act like the brace so the knee is held in a good position. Did an OS say no riding?...Ellie in CT
