Title: Finding the best surgeon
Post by: katia31 on July 01, 2005, 12:04:48 PM
I read some messages about looking for the best surgeons - just to let you know a member of my family underwent an elective arthroscopy by Mr Glen Vardi at the Garden Hospital in Hendon, and unfortunately infection was introduced during the procedure and she developed septic arthritis. This is a medical emergency and required admission to hospital. She required a wash out of the knee and 6 days of intravenous antibiotics. She was systemically unwell with sepsis and required large doses of opiates for pain control.

She now has a painful knee with only limited movement from 5 degrees to 86 degrees. Prior to the arthroscopy she was able to go on long walks, ride a bike, drive a car, and work full time in a very active job. We are clearly very disappointed at this outcome and would never recommend Mr Glen Vardi as a surgeon.

Our lack of faith in him is furthered by the fact that in the post operative period when this complication needed to be dealt with he was in South Africa, where he also operates. This is not adequate care for patients. Whilst I daresay most procedures go smoothly, it is not possible to be "caring" for patients in two continents.

Yours,
