Title: tendonitis/rupture
Post by: highjumpboy on June 30, 2005, 08:51:39 PM
What it is ive had patella tendoitis for a good few months on and of, but recently i met a physio who gave me some exercises to do to strengthen the tendon. This has abled me to jump on it but its been gettin sore after training and competetion. During competetion its hurts a little when i squat but its ok to jump on. Im just wondering how dangerous it is to be jumping on at the moment, as i have an international high jump comp next week which i cant miss. How bad does tendonitis have to be for the tendon to rupture etc

Thanks

I have been suffering from tendonitis in my patellar tendon for about 8 years. I would wear a brace during any sports I would play. I went to an OS when I first started having the pain. He told me to strengthen the muscles around it and it would be fine. I tried that for a while and it didn't work. Not too bright I did not get a second opinion. In April of this year I rounded first and snap went the tendon. You DO NOT want to have to go through this. I went to my new OS and he said the pain I was having was the tendon tearing each time I would have the pain. After surgery (which cannot be repaired with arthroscopic surgery) you are immobilized in either a cast or long immobilizer for about 7 weeks before you can bend it. I am currently 9 weeks post op and am now at full ROM. I do not go back to work for another 3-7 weeks. Sorry for rambling on I hope this helps with your question.
