Title: Meniscectomy/debridement and washout
Post by: Natalie.D on March 20, 2005, 12:56:31 AM
Hi,

I was wondering if there is a common/usual amount of time you should get relief from a washout.  I had a meniscectomy with debridement and washout in November, everything was doing ok until now.  Nearly 5 months on and my initial problems are returning, ie. catching, pinching, sticking, pain, etc.  Does this mean that I need another arthroscopy to do the washout again?  How long should I expect in between these procedures (my OS said to expect to need this done a few times in the years to come until I need a TKR), but I wasn't expecting to need it again so soon.  Any info would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Natalie.

Natalie,

Sorry to hear that your knees are acting up again.  Seems everyone reacts differently from the  debridement/lavage procedure, I felt no relief at all afterward.
Has anyone ever discussed the microfracture, ACI, OATS & synthetic graft procedures?
Remember you talking about TKR surgery, but want to hold off for a while, so just wondered if anyone could try one of these other procedures to give you some needed relief.
Good luck, Natalie.  Hope you find answers soon.  ~Shade

Hi Shade,

Just noticed your reply to this message (its an old one!), but since then as you may remember I went to see another surgeon to discuss PKR, it wasn't an option, neither was any of the procedures you mention as the arthritis is so far advanced (in all three compartments now) and my trochlear dysplasia is too severe, the only option left is a TKR, so its a case of coping as best I can for as long as I can before I go in for the TKR.

Natalie,

Sorry about that, I still get caught sometimes by not looking at the dates on posts.  Guess I'd better watch for that.
