Title: patella femoral help!
Post by: giu on November 23, 2004, 11:25:51 PM
Hello, since a few weeks I know I have this patella femoral pain syndrom. The doctor in the hospital told me this and then sent me away with "check the internet what it is, but there is nothing I can do about it". >:(
Now I've looked and everything is in English and I don't understand it that well.
What can I do? Will it get worse? I'm 33 and have hard times going down a mountain, walking stairs and so on. How will it be when I'm 50?
Can somebody help me to explain the things? Please in understandable English, I live in Holland.

Patella-femoral pain syndrome is a general term.  Basically it means pain in between the femur and the kneecap (patella).  Alot of things can cause the pain.  In many cases strength execises for the leg can pull the kneecap back in place and relieve your pain.

I hope this helps some.  Good luck.  ~Patti

Hey!

Helena

 Hi there
This is new to me so here goes. I have had knee pain and crepitus for 2 years. March 04 I had a nasty motor bike accident , guess where all the trauma went? You got it.  I am still using a crutch and in extreme pain all the time and the more I do the worse it gets. I am finally having a MRI next Jan. My os is very patronising and it has taken this long for him to take me seriously!! Thank goodness I have a great GP who has arranged an OT and a referral to a pain clinic. All I have been told is that before the accident my tracking was off due to hypermobility in feet and now the accident has damaged the joint behind knee caps. I would be grateful for any input because this is really getting me down especially when people don't take you seriously.

Go up to the 'general info' section and read 'Step 5' about kneecaps and patello-femoral syndrome (PFS).  This is a great, easy to understand explanation.

Another nice site is this one--it give simple explanations and gives you the big medical words along with an explanation of what they mean:

Hope this helps.  There is a lot you can do if you do indeed have PFS--a new doctor would be the best first step....
