Professor Steinwachs is an orthopaedic surgeon with a specialist interest in cartilage repair. He heads the first German centre for cartilage injuries and has recently been appointed honorary professor for sports medicine at the University of Beijing. He is chair of the International Cartilage Repair Society outcomes committee.
