A fasciotomy is a surgical procedure to cut the fibrous casing (fascia) which surrounds a muscle compartment.
Emergency fasciotomy
This is very often an emergency procedure where swelling has threatened to cut off the blood supply to a limb or a muscle compartment, and the fasciotomy relieves the pressure.
