Meniscus :

why are there so many complaints! - - Posted by Bruser (Bruser), 11 December 2004

I have a question for evryone who has had knee surgeries?

The way the O.S.s I have seen, and had surgeries by tell it, most people do well and feel better after their knee surgeries.

Here's my question, why are there so many people complaining about the way they feel and hurt weeks, months and years later after surgery procedures?

I think to myself before every surgery I am going to get my life back and be able to do the things I use to, and low and behold here I am trying to find out why I have so much pain and can't bend at all after two years.

Can someone give me an answer, I feel that this is all my fault, at least that is the way O.S.s are making me feel right now!

I am so over all of this!

Remember - we are all different.  And sometimes it takes work to find the right doctor for you.

I think a lot of the people who hang around this BB have had problem after problem after problem, which is not necessarily the norm.  I know lots of people who have surgery, heal, and move on with life.  I did 13 years ago, and just had my 2nd surgery a couple of days ago.

If you don't like what your dr. says, find a new one.  One willing to LISTEN to you, work with you, experiment, and consider something less traditional than the MRI report.

Good luck.

I wish it was that easy blackbeltgirl, my injury was an on the job injury, and you see who they let you see, not who you want to see, it has taken me almost two years to get into another O.S. because of how the Workers Comp system is in my state.

It is coming down to knee replacements and the O.S. won't consider that at this time, do to my age, oh well I will do the best I can with what I have left.

Thanks,
Bruser

Isn't there a board for people who've had problems with workman's comp?  Maybe someone has a suggestion for working around the system, and tricking the system into paying for it.

Good luck, keep a positive attitude, and hopefully eventually all will turn out well.

.  Its not there fault that  liagaments are torn  and that  the other damage occured over years when they  would not act.It is unfortunate but Workers Comp are god and they do and not what is best for the injured but what is best for there bottem line.  If that means that they do not tell the truth or send you to a third rate doctor so be it.   There entire objective is to get you off there roll.  Does not matter that long term injury may well occur.  They are doing this  with  me where my knee dates back to  1999.

Honestly there is not that many complaints...

I had a surgery/scope on my left knee after fighting for weeks with different doctors telling them there was something wrong... I lucked out, had the surgury (2000) and never had a problem afterwards.

Now for my right knee... I have had 4 surgeries from 2002 to 2004 with no help from an injury in 2001.  I am now waiting for my fifth surgery which should hopfully take care of the problem and I will be better off than I am now.

Moral- every knee differant... every doctor who operates on them is differant too so no out come is the same.  Good Luck.

WEll, I was expecting to not be whining so much, but this Wednesday will be 8 weeks post op and I'm still in pain.  I had to give up PT because it was irritating my knee and back.  Starting tomorrow, I hope to be able to continue my recovery in a pool.

Then there will be the left knee surgery to look forward to sometime this spring....can't wait..... NOT!

Hope things will be better for you though.  Most doctors tell you that you'll be better after surgery.  They don't have a clue!

Hi Bruser, Dallywags here.   I'm new to the board.  Wondering what you had done to your knee?  Injuries and surgeries?

I can't bend or straighten but I'm still fresh from surgery - 2 weeks (menisectomy) but I can't help but think that it's not gonna' come back very well.  Time does do amazing things, but it still feels stuck as far as I'm concerned.   Stuck like it was before the surgery.

My alignment is all out of whack because of it and it's more that just my knee that hurts now.

And I've been sleeping in a recliner since November.  (My injury chair - it's served me well over the years.  Best investment ever for an injury prone athlete like myself!!)

I'm so sorry to you - that your knee hasn't had more improvement!!

I just thought I'd ask what you had done,  since I didn't see here?

Maybe it will help me to better understand my injury and how I will fair long term.  Hopefully telling our stories will help somebody along the way.

I sure hope that someone can get you the help you need.  Wishing you all the best for a better 2005!!

Dallywags here - you answered most of the questions because I took so long to post, but I'm still interested in more explanation if you can offer.

Thanks.

I think that the reason so many of us have complaints has to do with the reason we are here....

If my knee were all better after surgery, I wouldn't be on the internet do web searches on knees.  I'm guessing that for a large number of people on here it is the same.

On the workers comp issue,  I can relate.  I left my job six months ago and I am still trying to get them to pay my hospital bills.  I had to ER visits due to inhaling fire extinguisher powder and a foot injury from trying to get away from the powder cloud (my foot was caught under the grill when I made my get-away).

Trying to get them to pay up is not my idea as fun...  I've been up to my nose in medical bills related to problems I had after leaving my job.  Getting a letter threating to send me to collections was not helpful.  I didn't even ask them to pay for my foot care after the visit.  I paid my bills after the ER visit.

I think Workers Comp makes it so difficult so that people get frustrated and give up, paying it on their own.  Grrrrrr!

Good luck,

Sid

Just what you needed - added insult to injury.

It should be about looking after the people, but it's always just about the money.
Short term thinking.  It's in the insurance companies benefits to look after you well, the first time.  Preventative...

Although I do understand that there are a lot of system abusers that bogs everyone who really needs the help, down.

Best of luck to you!!  Hopefully you can get creative and try and find some other means to help pay off the bills that are mounting.  I'm unable to work also, but self-employed, so there is no disability, medical or anything to pay my bills either.  Just me.  Thankfully we have a good medical system in the sense that they have taken care of all my surgery costs etc.  But the physio alone will leave me in a pretty deep hole soon - with no income coming in.  Plus if I need a brace etc.

But I've got my laptop and I'm a creative person, so I'm taking the time to help my business and myself by setting some different goals - ones I can accomplish from the couch - and making some new business plans.

Maybe learn how to make a web page - something I've never had time for before.  My business really needs one.

I might even take a degree on-line if my recovery  seems like it will go on long enough.  If I'm going to have bills mounting, at least I will be in a better position to pay them off, when I'm done!

I'm going to try and make the best of it, even though I don't always feel up to it...

Hope it all works out for you eventually!!  Hope it works out for all of us!
