What Next? - - Posted by tcb294 (tcb294), 5 March 2004

I just turned 38 and diagonoised with osterarthitis in both knees from previous surgey and injuries.  Left torn meniscus and cartlidge. Right chondromalacia Patella and some other torn stuff.  I've just finished shot #4 of 5 of Hylagen.  The Dr says that the effectivness of the injections usually peak 4 weeks after the last injection.  My right leg has showed a  little improvement but my left leg still hurts pretty good.  I don't see it gettting any improvement BUT I'll keep an open mind Cry  What do you think my next step should be??  Dr don't like to give out much pain med and I'm taking alott of Ibeprofen.  I've tried all the msm, glousodamine etc...

Thanks for your input

Arthritis sucks!

I just finished my Synvisc series and actually am starting to get some relief.  In addition, I just got an unloader brace (the majority of my problem is on the medial compartment) which works if your damage is only in one compartment (medial or lateral).  Your OS would know if that's an option for you.  Mine helps lots. if you have unicompartmental arthritis you might try an unloader brace. I'm 32 and have been living in one since the middle of last year. it helps me a lot.
You could also try celebrex or vioxx. I found that celebrex didnt work but vioxx did.

To DM:

I'm about to get an unloader brace. How many hours per day do you wear it? How long does one usually need to wear these?   Rick
