The patello-femoral joint :
Pattella Realignment - - Posted by babyblues_1998 (babyblues_1998), 9 January 2005
On June 10th 2003 I had surgery on my knee, they realigned the patella tendon and its held in place with 2 screws. I had a lot of pain for about 6 months after surgery then it calmed down for a couple of months. Then it got bad again and felt like i was back at the begining before i had the surgery, my knee would give out, lock up, swell and its weak. so after going back and forth to the dr. again he said that i have some form of arthritis What i'm wondering is does anyone know the technical name of the surgery i had and does anyone know what i can do for the pain now (the dr. is not treating my knee anymore he left it up to me to deal with)

I'm sorry that your knee isn't doing so well. It sounds like a TTT to me, or some people call it a osteotomy.
I think you should ABSOLUTLY find a new OS. Its crazy that a doc would say he's just leaving your knee up to you when you are still in pain.
Did you go to PT after surgery? Sometimes PTs can give really good advice, and they work with you more than OS's so maybe they can recomend a doc, or even what they think is going on. You could give them a call.
What was your original diagnosis, what was the surgery meant to correct?
If I were you I would go to my family doc and explain the situation, they should be able to recommend you to a new OS. Oh and where do you live someone on here might even be able to give you a name.
Good luck and take care, ~Patti
Oh and look up scar tissue on the boards, Heather M has some really good links about it, this might be causing your pain too.

I agree with Patti.
See another OS. In addition, I would get copies of your operative report from the guy who did your surgery. You have a right to have any of your medical records. That way you can show it to your New OS and he will beable to treat you better after knowing exactly what was done and seeing in in officially writing from the surgeon.
My OS wouldn't agree to opening me up again until he saw my past operative reports. Now he feels more confindent going in and fixing the problem.
Good Luck.
Let us know how it goes for you.

I had the surgery to fix my kneecap b/c of mal-tracking. they moved the patella tendon a few cm left to fix the tracking.
My family doctor is the one who has given up on my knee. I'm guessing OS stands for the specialist. if i'm right the last time i seen him was was Aug 2003. where i live we dont have many medical services and specialists dont come here we go out of town to see them. at my 6 month mark i had a set of x-rays sent to him and they were fine.
i went to pt for about 3 months i think. i was lifting 6 1/2 lbs with my bad leg and i could do a nice bit of work with my leg but it gave out one day and i have not been able to do much sence. the first dr. i seen after it gave out was going to send me outside to have a couple of tests done to see what was wrong but the refurrel had to go through my family dr. and he said it was no point to be sent out saying its beginning stages of osteoarthritis
I dont give out my location but i can say it's in the provience of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Thanks for the info.

OS stands for Orthopaedic Surgeon, and I think it's best to go for another opinion. The surgery you had was a TTT but there are different types of TTTs so tell usa bit more so we can give you the exact name (or point you into the right direction, only your doc knows the exact name). You can call your previous doc and ask for your medical notes can't you?
Anyway hope your knee gets better soon!!

I'm not sure what else to say so I’ll start from the beginning.
Dec 99- I was playing hockey when I fell one direction but my knee twisted the other way.
between 99-01 I was told it everything from a sprain to torn ligament. In may 2002 I went outside to see OS and have a ct scan done. He found out that there was a deformation of the knee bone which was causing the kneecap to pop out to the right . On June 10th 2003 I had the surgery which was suppose to pull the kneecap to the left
As for getting in touch with my OS i don't know how to unless i talk to my family dr. and he just says its osteoarthritis and that i have to keep working on it by walking and light activities
