Bone breaks around the knee :

Comminuted fracture of the tibia and fibula. - - Posted by Asad (Asad), 31 October 2004

I have a mate who suffered the comminuted fracture of the tibia and fracture of the fibula in his left leg.. The problem is this guy is an athlete whose future was based on his sports career. He will undergo surgery to insert a pin in the tibia.. I would be grateful if someone can inform info regarding recovery and whether he would be able to perform at the same level..

A lot of how he does will depend on his age, the severity of the break, and how dedicated he is in regaining range of motion and strength in the leg. PT is important, so he should get a referral to start it as soon as his Dr. allows it.

If you look through some of the threads under this topic, you should find folks with similar injuries and how they have resumed their active lifestyles.

At any rate, thanks for writing, and give your mate well wishes from all of us!!  Grin
