Overuse problems of the knee :

DVT treatment - - Posted by Alyce (Alyce), 11 November 2004

Hello,

My Father-in Law had a Baker's cyst which refuse to go away, despite being drained twice.  It was discovered that he had a DVT behind the knee.  He was admitted to the hospital, and given the usual course of blood thinners.

After 8 weeks, it became impossible for him to walk or stand because of the swelling and pain.  The vascular surgeon/radiologist at UNC Chapel Hill attempted a procedure to thread a catheter directly to the DVT and vacuum it out.  It was too hard, and the procedure was aborted.

Any other treatments for DVT?  It has moved up in his leg, and he is afraid to do much.  He was previously in great shape.

Many Thanks,
Alyce
