glucosamine and scar tissue - - Posted by Mike76 (Mike76), 15 October 2003
Have heard something about glucosamine causing scar tissue after surgery. I have searched all over this site re this subject but nothing.
It has now been 7 months since my surgery and my question is, if the above is true, has it been long enough for this not to occur if I start loading on glucosamine now?

Hi Mike
I have heard similiar from people but I have never been able to substaniate this by relaible means.
I have taken Glucosmaine for 4 years and although I already have a problem with scar tissue formation, I don't think I've become worse by taking glucosamine and I've had too many surgeries to mention!!

Hi Iona
Yeah I think I read it somewhere on the net one time. My cousin also advised me as well, which he used to be a proffesional body builder.
Still thanks for the input. Still wondering if 7 months is long enough time for the tissue inside to be fully healed.
Cheers

My OS actually recommended glucosamine immediately after my last surgery. I haven't had any scar tissue problems and have taken glucosamine, chondriotin and SAM-e immediately following both of my surgeries.
I think there just isn't enough research to know for sure one way or another.

Yeah i agree, alot of mixed messages.
What is this SAM-E? I read it somewhere b4 but dismissed it as some code name or sumfin

SAM-e is probably better known as a supplement that improves your mood. But it supposedly also can help cartilege to grow and definitely helps to relieve joint pain without side effects that actual/normal pain killers have. (My stomach is a mess when I take pain killers.) I do notice that if I take it in the evening, it's harder to sleep, but when I take it in the morning, I don't notice any side effects at all. SAM-e is expensive, but I've found it to be worthwhile.
I remember reading a lot on the internet, but unfortunately didn't bookmark it... I'll post if I see any good articles.

Ok, I have been taking sam-e and glucosamine for about 5 days now. I usually have to take a hell of alot of anit-inflamatories but all seems to be fine.
I do realise you need to have at least 15 - 30 days before anything to acually improve, so will keep posted.
