Bone breaks around the knee :
Recovered Fractured Patella Survey! - - Posted by HHB (MHB), 22 September 2004
Dear folks,
At 6 mos out from fractured patella ORIF (fixture hardware still in place), a bit of swelling/heat/inflammation remains in the injured knee, but no pain. Am curious
about other outcomes. So ....10 QUESTIONS for the Fractured Patella (with ORIF) Gang
Thanks very much ahead of time to those who will provide any of the above information. I realize
1) How does your recovered knee function in ordinary daily use? (For example, tracking,
weightbearing on bent knee, strength, etc)
2) What is your typical pain level (subjective 0-10 scale), if any?
3) Is ROM in both knees equal?
4) Does your recovered knee still swell? If so, how much and when?
5) If no swelling remains, does your recovered knee appear larger than the uninjured one?
6) Does your recovered knee still produce heat? If so, how much and when?
7) Is your recovered knee the same color as the uninjured knee? If not, please describe color.
Do you take prescription drugs and/or supplementals (for example, glucosamine sulfate/hcl,
chondroiton, MSM, etc) to maintain the recovered knee?
9) Does your knee hardware remain and if not, what was the removal time frame?
10) Can you spend an entire day without your recovered knee getting your attention?
that every story has to be different, but just wondered how the outcome plays for others in the
fx-patella-ORIF recovery boat.
Take care -- MHB

I also suffered an injury to my ankle in the fall. Since it continues to cause problems, some of my knee pain is the result of the ankle.
