KNEE ARTHRITIS - General principles of managing Osteoarthritis of the knee :

Does arthritus always cause swelling? - - Posted by stgiles16 (stgiles16), 8 December 2004

Just out of curiosity, can you have arthritus and not have swelling? My good knee hurts worse than my bad at times. It grinds terribly and stiffens up all the time. I fear it may be arthritus but I dont have any swelling. I dont plan to see the OS about it (he hasnt released me for the bad one yet) but am just curious. I have a strong family history of arthritus and have totally abused and overused my good knee.  Any of you experts have an idea?
thanks
missy

As I recall in my reading, you might not notice the swelling with arthritis, but it still might be swelled and irritated inside the knee.
If your knees are stiff maybe try hot water bottle or soak in hot tub, seemes to calm down stiff knees.
