Bone breaks around the knee :
RCOVERY from fractured knee cap - - Posted by leachy (leachy), 13 January 2005
Hi to anyone ready this. I am 16 and I fracture my knee cap on halloween 2004 playing rugby. As i had broken it into 3 peices so i had an operation to wire it together. I am now wearing a knee brace and have about 60 degrees of movement and I am about to start physical therapy. I won't be able to play contact sport for at least another year. I just would like to hear from anyone who has had experience of a similar injury and could tell me what they went through or are going through in terms of recovery physically and mentally. Thanks to anybody replying to this post!!!

Hi, Leachy and welcome to KneeGeeks!
There's quite a few Patella "babes" here, I am sure they will give you some excellent advice. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy posting with us. Again Welcome aboard!

You're welcome!! BTW, it may help you to read through some of these other threads dealing with Patella breaks, you may find out how others have managed and it may help you to know what they went through as it may be similar to your experiences.
At any rate, I wish you all the best in your recovery!

Hey, Leachy!
Welcome to our little world.
You'll make so much progress in physical therapy. One of the toughest parts of this journey is learning to be patient, because it is a long road back. I'm sure you've heard it before, but you do have youth and athleticism on your side. I look forward to hearing of your progress.

Hi, Leachy:
I also broke my kneecap into three pieces a little over a year ago. I'm able to walk now. It takes a loooong time to come back after the immobilizer is removed. Physical therapy helps alot. After that, you gotta keep working your leg. Good luck!

Success Story!!!
I met an accident (dec'03) and broke both my knee caps. Left one was into several pieces (10+), right one was into fewer. My right leg is like before, the pieces have joined and i have full ROM in both my legs
My left patella could not be fixed in a proper shape, so i need to go for arthroscopy.
However, the point it, within a year, I am able to walk, run. If your pieces have been placed right then u'll have no probs hopefully
I got my wires removed in June cause they started hurting. I'm glad that they are gone. Keep doing ur knee presses and lifts. They help alot.
