ATSoccerGirl...about cycling.... - - Posted by cam2124 (cam2124), 20 July 2004

Hi, ATSoccergirl...I hope you see this!

I've read a couple of your posts about cycling to help MCL ruptures. Would you be willing to post a general regimen? I have a grade 3 MCL tear and have been cleared to ride the stationary cycle and swim. I'm four weeks out from the injury, on crutches and in a Bledsoe, but I can take off the brace to cycle.

My routine thus far has been to cycle at no or low resistance for 30 minutes, 6 days a week. I've been doing that ever since I was cleared to cycle (about a week after the injury). My PT is cool with the extra cycling, but I don't really have an idea about how to increase resistance or when.

I think one of your posts said a football player was able to get back to sport after 6 weeks with a grade 3 MCL rupture! I don't hope for such grand things, but any specific regimens about cycling you'd be willing to share would be great.

Thanks much! Hope to hear from you.

Sorry it's taken me so long to reply, during the summer I don't check in as often.

Unfortunatly, I cannot post any specifics due to the fact that we are currently in the process of developing specific protocols and are going to be implementing a large scale study on them.  In order to prevent our subjects from being completely aware of the protocols we use everything has to kept highly confidential at this point.  I don't feel comfortable posting such info on a public site.  I could however be able to give you some recommendations if you IM me your e-mail and I can respond to you that way.
