Celebrex is an anti-inflammatory. It's not supposed to mess up your stomach like other inflammatories. However, I found that it messed me up worse than the NSAIDS. Made me sick and didn't work either. My husband takes the stuff for his arthritis and has had good results.

I LOVE my celebrex.  It has taken my pain levels down to a more bearable place, and the best part is that the medicine stays in your system.  So if you miss a dose, it doesn't start to hurt again right away.

I take 200mg twice a day, but really only remember the second dose about half the time.  After my lateral release, going on Celebrex enabled me to stop taking my other pain meds for several months, until I had other complications and surgeries.  For now, the Celebrex takes my pain from a steady 7/10 to about 4-5/10, with higher spikes depending on whether I'm having a good day or not.  Not perfect, but better than the alternative.

I tried Vioxx and Bextra, but they both made me sick and didn't provide the level of relief that Celebrex does.

Good luck, I hope it works as well for you as it does for me.

I have had very good results with Celebrex.  I take it for knee arthritis.  I take 200mg a day.  Once you take it a couple of weeks, you might be able to take it as needed.  I have found Celebrex, unlike VIOXX, stays in my system.  Voixx quit working after about 5 hours.  I can take Celebrex about 4 times a week, on a good week, and still have consistant pain relief.

Smiley Hi, Emily,
I'm on Celbrex 200 mg once a day for my IT band and chondromaltia problems so it's not just for arthritus. And I like the fact that it doesn't mess with my stomach!

Hi Emily

I took celebrec for almost 3 years with good results.  I started at 200mg once daily then half way through was put up to 200 mg twice daily and by the last month it was not working well for me anymore so my GP switched me to bextra.  I loved the celebrex! I am debating going on it agian now since i have been off it for a month adnsee if it works again.  im not too fond of hte bextra it works wonders for my knee but is not helping anything else at all Sad  I didnt have arthritis it was just used for swelling and pain mainly i think.

The bextra didnt have an effect on my knee, and it made me feel sick, but so far Celebrex seems a lot better!

SmileyEmily,
I was told to take celebrex for 15 days then get off for 5 days to see if I could tell if it had been working. At first I didn't think it had so I took Viox but that didn't seem to help and created other problems so I went back to the Celebrex and have been feeling better. Hope it works for you,

Does anyone know if you can get Celebrex in the UK? If so is it prescription only or can you buy it from a chemist?

Celebrex is available in the Uk only through prescription as well as Vioxx.  Grin
