Overuse problems of the knee :

runner's knee's problem - - Posted by yelena (yelena), 28 November 2003

Hello,
I’ve been jogging about 20 years. Every morning I, usually, run for 30 minutes and on the weekends for one hour. After long weekend 2 weeks ago, when I’ve been running for one hour during three mornings, I started to feel sore at my knees and discomfort. I did not stop running and sore got a little worse, but not much. Pain is dull and I do not feel it all the time. I do not know what to do? I can’t stop to run completely. How I can protect my knees? Please, answer me if somebody had the same problem.
Thanks.

All my knee problems started with what you are describing. I can not stress enough that you can't run through the pain.  I did and now I'm seven surgeries later still not running.  Are you stretching properly before and after your runs? I failed to do that and have paid a hafty price. Please seek a doctor's advice soon. If I had started Physical Therapy when my symptoms first appeared I could have avoided almost all my surgeries. I have not run in over 2 years now and it's pure torture! I am not saying PT will solve your issues, however, you are in need of professional advice before things get out of hand. Please take care of your knees at the first onset of symptoms to avoid more damage and pain. Good luck to you.

Elena,

I am so happy to hear that. If my experiences can help just one person in the world avoid the trauma and knee probs I have been through, then my experience was well worth it. Please keep me updated as to how you do.

I can not believe the uncanny resemblence between your story and mine....WOW! Wishing you great luck and for you to continue running as that has always been my passion too.

Take care,
Heather

I've had a similar problem.  i'm 24/M/6'0"/230lbs.

I started running at the gym on a treadmill for a mile or two every day.  I usually did intervals instead of running at a constant speed.  I usually did a weight lifting workout before actually doing the running.

Now my right knee has pain on the inner tibial region, running down about 6" from the joint.  I also have pain on the inside "bump" of my tibia.  I have no pain within the knee joint itself, or any pain on the kneecap.

Occaisionally there is some popping.

Is this a sprained or torn ligament?  Will rest heal this problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It does not sound as a torn ligament, because in that case you would feel unstable knee and a big paine.                                                                               More likely, it is a musculs sore. Anyway, try warm compreses and rest. If it is not going to help, consalt a doctor.
