Dear CAPstark;

I am 9 months post-op from a LTKR. I am a 43 year old extremely athletic individual. I had six prior surgeries to my TKR. The majority of my pain was in the front ride side of my knee. This pain was very noticable during rehab. Around the 6 to 7th month post-op it started to disipate. My left calve is sore when pressed. It is similar pain to that of a cramp. This calve pain has been with me since 1981, date of my major reconstructive surgery, ACL, MCL rebuild. I was told it was nerve damage. That theory seemed to match with my inability to develop the calve muscle to match that of my right leg.

Hope this helps!!!

I had both knees replaced 30 months ago, at age 59. They are great now but the longest lasting pain was behind both knees at the top of the calf muscle. It took over a year before the pain disappeared. I think it was a result of the calf muscles shrinking as my knees got more and more bent as the joints wore out. It takes ages to stretch them again, and I also regained a couple of inches in height as my legs straightened. Thats my theory and I'm sticking to it!. Cycling or exercycle is good. Start with the seat high and keep lowering it steadily as the bend improves.
Hang in there, its worth it. Alan.
