The patello-femoral joint :
Osteopathic Medicine? - - Posted by Linds (Linds), 24 January 2005
Hey GUys, I'm still in really rough shape...
But...that's not the point of this post. A friend of mine this weekend who's a massage therapist suggested that I go see another PT who is trained in Osteopathy. I've done a little reading on exactly what Osteopathy is and i'm not sure i'm compfortable with it. I wondered if anyone had any experience with this? I have a great PT right now and I think he's done some really excellent work with me.
Just She thought maybe an Osteopath could really make a difference to me.
BUt as I said i'm kind of un easy about it after reading exactly what an osteopath is. I'm just not sure that anyone can do anything that's gonna make a HUGE difference right now. I'm building up some muscle..with this new PT so that's gotta mean something. I'm really happy and compfortable with him, i'm getting really overwhelmed with all of this right now...
and I think going to yet another therapist is going to be just too much for me right now.
Any thoughts, you might have or experiences would be GREATLY appreciated.

I have read up on this also Linds, although it does seem interesting, I find it scary. Maybe a person should have an open mind about these different things, but when you have pain all the time it does get much harder to let someone touch you, expecially without knowing for sure if this will work. Why not ask Michael his view regarding this type of therapy as he may be familar with this. You seem to value his opinion and he will no doubt give you some pros and cons regarding this therapy.
This is interesting though and maybe it does work, but there is nothing like this in my area (wow, that is a shocker, eh). Good luck to you.

Most people tell me that all I need is a good chiropractor to force my knee bones, patella, hip & flat feet all back into place and I would be normal again. Even one OS told me a couple of sessions would fix me up like new. I will not say what I thought about that as I would be kicked off this site.....Information is great, but you have to go with what you feel also.

Hey Shade, thanks for your reply, i'm really nervous about it, cause as you said when you are in constant pain letting people manipulate you and touch you is a little daunting. Michael does some manipulative therapy , so I just tend to wonder if Osteopathy is really worth it. Anyway as to the chiropractor. I saw one for 8 months last year, still go to him from time to time for my back... but he was not able to do anything for my knees. He fit me for orthotics and made my back feel and work better which made dealing with all this better, but he wouldn't even really touch my knees. He did do some active release on my quad muscles and my scar tissue, which was excruciating but it did help some with my muscle. Let me say to you, that people who aren't going through what we are will have lot's of suggestions for us... but until you are in this position it's immpossible to understand.
Thanks for your post and i'm going to look at that site right now. I'm really not sure... I might ask Michael about it. He's so not good at those conversations..he always says he is in support of me in whatever I wish to try , whomever I wish to see. BUT I do want his opinion..not just his support.
Take care
Linds
PS it also seems here that Osteo medicine is different then in the UK and the US. Elsewhere, osteopaths are doctors... here in Canada or atleast on the east coast, they are Physiotherapists, and other therapists trained in osteopathy... so i'm not sure i feel the same about it as if they were docs.
